5 Home Decor Designs to Nix in Your Charlotte Home for 2016
It’s that time of year when I tend to think about cleaning out closets, rearranging furniture, painting walls and freshening up my home for the new year! You know, just change things up a bit! Shake things up a bit! I don’t know about you, but I get tired of staring at the same four walls! And this year, I have a big, exciting renovation planned- a complete kitchen renovation. (I’ll blog about that project in more a future blog!) In this blog I’m sharing 5 Home Decor Designs to Nix in Your Charlotte Home for 2016
As a Realtor here in Charlotte, I’m constantly going into homes that I’m showing to buyers or going to listing appointments. I love, love, love seeing new and different creative design ideas that get my wheels turnin’! I seem to gain inspiration every time I go into a home! And, since I work out of my home office regularly, I like to keep it fun, fresh and inspiring.
In thinking about some projects I am considering for my home, I’ve also been scouring Pinterest and design magazines. I’ve put together a list of a few design trends that, in my opinion, are so 2015. Especially if you choose to list your home this year. In fact, I’ve received feedback from buyers that a few of these trends can be a real turn-off.
Open Shelves in the Kitchen
I don’t know about you, but I can’t keep my kitchen that organized! I like to be able to keep a lid on the mis-matched coffee mugs and chipped dinner plates from my kids plunking them into the dishwasher! I haven’t had decent everyday china since 1995! Not to mention the dust! While I like the idea of stuff being easily accessible, open shelving appears to be on the way out the door!
Faux Deer Heads
Enough said. Unless you like wearing camouflage and can exhibit your authentic mount, I suggest you start hunting for a new look!
A little flare of industrial is fine but don’t don your kitchen with loft-style decor. This is extremely trendy and I fear you will regret the use of it (not to mention the expense) in short order. You know, kind of like you did the stirrup pants from the 80s! Love it but not sure how to use it correctly? Head to Restoration Hardware for some inspiration- they get it right.
Honestly, I didn’t even realize that it ever made a comeback, but my research shows that it’s been trying mightily for several years now. Let’s just let it die, shall we?
If you found it on your last walk on the beach of 2015, then, by all means, keep it! Otherwise, let it drift away…..
