Kitchen Design Trends for 2017

December 13, 2017 By: admincomment

kitchen design trends

With only a few weeks left of 2017, it seems to be a good time to look back on some of the home design trends that we have seen in the past year. Since the kitchen is typically the known as the “heart of a home”, let’s start there!

Kitchen Design Trend #1: Contrasting Islands

One of the most common kitchen trends for 2017 was contrasting islands. Gone are the days of monotone kitchens. Now, homeowners are able to bring even more personality into the kitchen by pairing complementing colors. The pairing of white cabinets and dark grey or dark blue islands was one of the most striking combinations.

Kitchen Design Trend #2: Open Shelving

Do you have beautiful dishes that you reach for each day or a collection of coffee mugs that would look great out on display? If so, open shelving is the kitchen design for you. It is also a great way to make a small kitchen look bigger. This may explain why we have seen this trend gain in popularity with the cozy bungalow style houses that make up some of Charlotte’s favorite neighborhoods.

Kitchen Design Trend #3: Glass Front Cabinets

While glass front cabinets have been around for a few years, they really become popular in 2017. Glass fronts are sometimes seen on a few carefully selected cabinets, such as corner cabinets, or on the top cabinets closest to the ceiling. Like open shelves, they are a great way to showcase beautiful dishes.

What was your favorite kitchen design trend of 2017? Have you incorporated any of these trends into your own kitchen? I hope you are  looking forward to what design trends we will see in 2018 as much as I am!
