It may sound too good to be true, but having a lush green lawn year round can be a reality. If you’ve resigned yourself to the idea that maybe the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, you may want to ask your neighbor exactly how he got his lawn so healthy. It may not be just his green thumb.
It might just be lawn painting.
Confused? Make no mistake about it, lawn painting in Charlotte is a new trend. Perfect for those Charlotte winters where dormant grass can take away from your curb appeal, especially if you are looking to attract buyers to your home.
In fact, if you are thinking of selling your home consider the recent data provided by the ARA, “Sprucing up your yard will help get buyers attention and can add up to 15 percent to its value. It may even be the difference between a potential buyer and a drive-away.” Want to hear more?
Michelle Dawson, realtytimes.com, notes Mark S. Henry of the Department of Agriculture and Applied Economics at Clemson University found that excellent landscaping added 4 to 5 percent to the value of a good home. In addition, homes with poor landscaping in the same neighborhoods as those with excellent landscaping sold for 8 to 10 percent less (ARA).”
A few reasons why painting your lawn may be something to consider:
- Your lawn’s naturally green all year
- Save water during water restrictions
- Environmentally safe
- Eliminate winter over seeding
- Shorten your lawns dormancy period
My initial reaction was that this was a superb idea for my sellers, however two questions came to mind:
How long does it last? and how much does it cost?
On average it seems to last 2-3 months, depending on rate of lawn growth (i.e. with each mowing session). However, I must preface this by saying that just like all things, lifespan would more than likely be relative to product quality. Make sure you research your lawn paint company and check on their referrals as well.
As many homeowners can attest, especially those who are considering the possibility of listing their home, every dollar counts. So naturally I was curious to see how much a service such as lawn painting would cost before I approached any of my sellers. It seems that nationwide it averages between .25 to .35 cents per square foot. Not a bad investment if you are looking as conserving water or listing your home.
Although it was hard to find many cons related to the service, a few that I found included “crunchiness of grass blades” after application of product (which of course that could be relevant to type of product used etc.) as well as some staining of pet’s paws or shoes after walking through the lawn.
Remember, painting your yard green is not just as simple as picking up a can of green spray paint from your local home improvement store. Leave the artistry to certified technicians who use paint that is safe for your lawn, children, and pets.
I would say that if your looking to give your Charlotte area home some major curb appeal lawn painting may be the way to go, especially for those looking to sell their home.
